Supervised Arts Leadership: Final work and Review

I went onto youtube and I needed to download the short version of the harlem shake for our animation, so I copied the link of the youtube video and pasted it into youtube converter and converted it as an MP3.

I then helped james with some of the photoshop work for the animations, I did things such as get rid of the backgrounds of the characters

Link to my padlet - my online wall for comments from my peers

What did I think of the finished animation?

I think we did pretty well overall because of the time we did it in, we got the animation finished in the first two weeks of starting the projects, we worked well together and we known exactly what we wanted to do and exactly how we wanted to get it done.

Did we achieve in what we set out to achieve?

Yes I think we did, we set out to make a short animation of 6 characters moving and we got it done, we stuck to the plan which we made for our self, I think there is some areas in which we could of improved on such as some of the characters movements if we decided to redo the animation its self but I am happy with how the animation turned out

Why am I pleased with the results?

I am pleased with the results we got because of the task we made ourself and the time we did the animation in, also it was one of our first times working together making a animation and we did pretty well considering this.

How well did I carry out my leadership role as a Director.

I personally think that I was good at my role within the group, I helped james with what he was doing,  by getting him images and telling him exactly what he needed to do or if there was any parts that
I thought needed improvements on the animation and because we communicated effectively it made my role a lot easier and better and because of our communication skills and my director skills, we completed it on time and in my opinion it was a good animation.

Surpervised arts leadership

In this new this new challenge we have been put into groups, some groups are larger than other groups but in my group there is just two of me us, me and my friend.

There is going to be two roles in our group, my friend, James,  is going to be an animator, using Flash,  and I am going to be the director of the group, this is because I am not that good at animating but he is.

This is a quick brief about being a director

The main skills required in this job are:
  • Communication  - because you will be communicating with actors and also with some of your fellow workers in your area.
  • Leadership Skills - being a directer is one of the main jobs if you are making a movie or something so obviously people will be looking at you to tell them what to do next.
  • Good judgement - because say you are going to be filming at the night and you don't want rain or something you need to judge what time it won't be raining to film your scene.
  • Providing encouragement - because say you have an actor or someone who doesn't think they can provide to the team you need to encourage them.
  • Involving people - because some people might feel left out of the group so you need to slowly involve them so they feel more involved and comfortable
  • Reliable - because you are one of the most important people of the crew, people will be relying on you a lot to get a lot of the work done.

The qualities of a director that I would like to develop in this project are my leadership skills, I feel that is what I am supposed to be in a group and that is a leader, but I wanna improve some things in my leadership skills such as making people listen to what they have to do and explain it more in depth to them so the chances of them making a mistake is less, less mistakes the faster and better it gets done. I would also like to improve my judgement, so basically try to stay one step ahead of what I am doing and having a plan B if something goes wrong so I can change it without having a problem.

The idea

We are both going to choose three cartoon characters and then compile them and make some kind of music video with them, here are the characters that are chosen

Johnny test.

this is not the exact picture that will be used but johnny test will be bouncing around.

ash

not with this picture but in a different image he will be dancing thriller style

eeyore

eeyore will be on the first on screen he will just be sitting there.

Planning Practical Issues:

Software going to be needed:
Photoshop, Flash, Adobe premiere; Internet

Photoshop will be used to make the images smaller and crop them a bit so they fit correctly for the flash and Flash will be for making the animation its self, also we used Adobe premiere to add the music and edit the animation its self to fit in with the music.

Internet will be used for Images and communication through comments in blogs between James and myself.

Key stages of development:

1.We need to start with getting the images that we are going to need then I will need to bring them into Photoshop and crop them all and so on for James to do.
2. I will then need to put them into the public folder for James to edit.
3. He will then put them all together and animate each character seperately.
4. I will then go onto Youtube converter and  youtube to download the audio we are wanting to use (Harlem shake song) using youtube converter.
5. After James has finished editing it, he will then send it to me for me to put into Adobe premiere
6. I will then need to put it into Adobe Premiere and also add the music I will have downloaded in stage 4.
7. I will then need to edit the animation and the music to fit together.

How did I contribute exactly?

I contributed to this in a lot of different ways as a directer for this project.

I was responsible for stages 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7 in the production process, soI think there was a lot of responsibility. All stages of work went according to plan, although James found various glitches and problems with the actual animation process in Flash and making the characters move properly.

How well did we work together as a team?
I thought we worked well together as a team and communicated effectively.
  • I helped by helping with finding the images that were needed for this project
  • I edited the images to make them fit in the animation
  • I gave feedback to my friends work to help him a long with the animation its self
  • I found the sound file we needed for this.
  • I cut the animation and sound file in Adobe premiere so it would fit together.
We also communicated regularly through comments on each others blogs. A link to some of the communication is here.

How did I do these?

I can only explain some of the parts I did for this project because some of these are self explanatory such as getting the images.

For editing the sound file and animation, I  used the end of the song for the harlem shake so it did not end abruptly, I did this by putting the end of the song at the end of the animation, I also had to cut parts of the animation, I had to cut it at certain areas so it did not look weird and out of place.

Here is the finished project

Arts award

My teacher reviewed my work up to now and I am going to comment on one of the things he said which was "you need to explain in more depth what you are learning, how something has been produced". I think this is true so I am going to go back to see what I can improve in that area to improve my work and get a much better grade.

I am learning digital imaging so that can be taking photos and editing images using programs such as photoshop.

Action plan.

  • For this I need to be looking at different artists and different kind of edits such as creative images and what that image might mean
  • I need to show images that I have took myself and images that i have edited
  • Explain how i edited a image, such as what kind of effects i used for the image to make it look different than it originally was
  • give a reason why i used that kind of image and what I am planning to use it for
because I have already started this I dont exactly have a action plan of what stages i am gonna do in order because I have already started them all so I will just improve them all in one lesson but over I would say it will take me two weeks max to get this finished maybe one week if I do not have any other work I have to do is well at the same time

Digital Imaging review

Arts Award Challenge (Review for digital imaging)

What could of I done better?

if I remade this i would probably added more information, information such as adding more pictures to it that i edited myself. I wanted to do this for it to look a lot better and i will have more information into it so it looks like I have actually put a lot of information into it and took my time with each part of it that I did.

I think I did go into detail with my work this but I think i went into detail into detail more than I did on other parts of it it, so if I was going to do it again I would of tried to improve the parts I did not go into detail much on.

I think I could of provided better images than what i provided, images off the internet and images that I could of spent the time and made because one of the images I used I just got it from my previous work, I think I should of just made some images with photo shop or taken some just for this only.

What have I learnt?

Whilst doing this one of the main things i have probably learnt, well not much learnt I would say improved on is my photoshop skills because I made one photo for this and I tried different effects and filters and stuff such as that, so I would say that improved my skills within photoshop and also I learnt different techniques within it.

What problems did i get?

When I was making this i had problems such as getting the lego I needed to even start this project.
I was not able to save in my own work space because of the network acting up lately so I had to save it in a different place and then transfer it over into mine every time I wanted to save my work.

What did I like about this project?

I liked pretty much every part of this project because I personally love using photoshop in total, this gave me a chance to do some photoshop work and then showcase it in my blog for this project and then talk about how I made these, so overall I liked the whole project.

The big labowski review

Unit 1 Part C: review arts events
The Arts Event I reviewed was the showing of the movie, "The Big Lebowski"  at the Media Film Club in Middlesbrough College on Tuesday 11th February.

Storyline:
When "The Dude" Lebowski is mistaken for a millionaire Lebowski, two thugs ruin his rug to coerce him into paying a debt he knows nothing about. While attempting to gain recompense for the ruined rug from his wealthy counterpart, he accepts a one-time job with high pay-off. He enlists the help of his bowling buddy, Walter, a gun-toting Jewish-convert with anger issues. Deception leads to more trouble, and it soon seems that everyone from porn empire tycoons to nihilists want something from The Dude.
(storyline written by Written by J. Lake at  www.imdb.com)

The genre for the film I would say is comedy with some parody into it at the same time. The Age rating for the film is 18 because it included nudity scenes and a lot of drugs scenes in it and also because it was not putting people off drugs it showed people liking the drugs it made the age rating higher.

I found the storyline hard to follow, sometimes it went suddenly to a different scene and i did not have a clue what is going on.

Here are the names of the main characters and cast from www.imdb.com:
4.

When I first went into the theatre area to watch it i really didn't have big expectations because of the short reviews and trailers that i watched of it earlier that day. The first 30 minutes of it or so i could keep interest but after a while i started to not be as interested as I was so overall I was bored in a short amount of time. If  I had a choice to watch it again i probably would not watch it because I did not find it a good film overall, if i was going to choose a film I probably would of chose a comedy that is at least in the 21st century and the story line would actually make sense. I did not think it was a good film for film club because I was looking  at everyone else and not that many people were actually watching it, they were like me. if i was going to give it a rating out of 1 to ten I would probably give it a 5, thats just my personal opinion on the film.
Personally I think the story did not go that well, it was good but I exeected it to be a little bit better bunot amazing, I thought some of the characters did not suit there role in this such as both of labowskis friends, I think they could of replaced them with someone better.
d
dFor the first 30 minutes or so I kept interest in the film and what was going on and after that I took interest but I did not feel like watching the rest of it, So I put my head down a bit and just listened because what was going on, on the screen I did not find that interesting, so therefore I felt that I did not want to watch it.

IIf I was going to give a best part of the film I would of probably said the start of the film were the two guys broke into his house mistaking him for someone else and then weeing on his carpet.

If I am going to be honest I dont think this was a good choice for film club because it was not just me who did not find this interesting, my friends also thought the same, they did not find it enjoyable at all. So no, I do not think this was a good choice for Film Club.

a I think the acting wasn't amazing but it was good, for example like I said earlier I dont think the friends of  Labowski suited their role in the film, I thought some parts were a bit over dramatic, what I am trying to say is that they could of made some parts a lot easier and making it more dramatic than it had to be did not help them in my opinion.

I did not really take notice of the lighting but I think that is because the lighting was fine, they didn't make it too bright or too dark because I think I would of noticed it.

there was a lot of kinda musical parts in the movie, I thought they were good but went on for way too long, like the one near the end kind of I think went on for too long. Here is a link to it if you wish to take a look at it.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FscKSB7Hh_w

I thought that the script was okay, this is kind of related to the acting because of the actors doing the scripts, i thought it could of had improvements maybe but it was not that bad in my opinion.

The camera work for the movie was good, they didnt use bad angles so you cant see whats fully going on and so on, you could tell that they were professionals

Here are two videos of us watching and listening to clive before watching the film. This p
is evidence of my attending the event.

Creative image

I made this image, it is one of them images that has a story behind it in a way because if you look at it, its a guy who is acting like he cant help his friend but in reality he can so this is titled "fake friends" because that is what it is, when i made it i did not fully think it through i should of done something else because you would not need a ladder to help someone in that kind of position, so i might go over it and try and make it better than it originally was

BBC NEWCASTLE TRIP

This was a picture that I taken it was dark in the room so i had to use the flash on the camera. It was a picture of some of the old film reels that date back to like 20 years ago or more or so, they kept all these incase they are needed for something in the future, for example if the story of one of these came up again they can use old footage that was taken before and also they might use it for evidence. These are so old you can not touch them, you might be able to take them but very gently, They are sensitive to light flashes because it could damage them.

this is the area were they would talk about news that is important but it isn't really important so such as the football results other things around that area, they would talk about in this area of the news room, the background looks like a office but it isn't  it is just a screen that has something inside that makes it look like its a office behind but there is not one. This area is called the news room.
this was the area were they broadcasted important news such as if they're was a little girl who has went missing or there has been a murder, in the middle of the table, under it was a monitor which had writing on it that was based about what he is going to be talking about such as, infront of him out of the view of the camera was another monitor which had the writing on which he had to say, so it was a script he had to read off. If you look closely there is a foot peddle near the chair it is black, that is for to move the script on the monitor further down so he can see more writing which he has to say. The monitor which shows the script is called an teleprompter.

This is a image of the teleprompter which I explained above,
